Veronica Rose Waechter is a young Gitxsan-European artist. Her grandmother is from Gitanmaax, of the Fireweed Clan, and Gutginuxw House. She lived in Hazelton when she was young while her father went to Gitanmaax School of Northwest Coast Indian Art, but they moved not long after to Terrace, where she has lived ever since.
After graduating high school Veronica decided that she would follow her passion for visual arts, which led her to the Freda Diesing School of Northwest Coast Art. There, she was able to learn many skills from the Master Carvers, and graduated from the two-year program in April 2016. She then transferred into Emily Carr University of Art + Design as a third year student, and is expected to graduate in April of 2018.
Veronica is inspired by the past generations and the ones to come. She loves to share and teach what she learns from others, and plans to eventually teach at a professional level within her communities.
Veronica received the YVR Youth Scholarship in 2017, and has shown and sold works in several galleries including the Spirit Wrestler Gallery in Vancouver.
